Exclusive interview — Long read
Five singles in 2026, a black-and-red universe cut with a blade, and one promise: never soften the message. A conversation with DARKAAZ, the artist welding rap and metal together without asking anyone's permission.
Where did DARKAAZ come from?
"From frustration. I was listening to rap for the lyrics and metal for the energy, and nowhere could I find both in one place with my vision. So I built it myself. DARKAAZ is where the two worlds collide."
Rap metal carries a heavy legacy. Does that weigh on you?
"It's a legacy, not a uniform. I respect everything that came before, but I don't do nostalgia. My production is from today: riffs that crush, 808s that distort, a flow that cuts. A genre either evolves or it dies."
Why one-word titles?
"One word is enough when it's the right one. MUTE is everything you can't manage to say. One riff, one word, one truth. No need to add anything."
"I don't make music to please.
I make music to hit where it hurts."
MUTE opens the series. Why start with silence?
"Because that's where everything starts. Before you scream, you stay quiet. For a long time. MUTE is the pressure building before the explosion. The most restrained track of the series — and that's what makes it violent."
MONSTER — who's the monster?
"The one you become when you stop lying to yourself. The track is a mirror. Everyone sees their own. Live, it's the one that opens the pit."
NUMB is about emotional anesthesia. Is that lived experience?
"Everything I write is lived or observed up close. NUMB is that moment when you feel nothing anymore and it's almost comfortable. That's the trap. Musically it's the coldest track — on purpose."
Is MARTYR the darkest one?
"The most direct. The martyr is the one who takes the hits for everyone else and ends up asking why. Vocally I went places I'd never gone before. Somewhere between singing, rapping and screaming."
And DOCTOR closes the loop…
"Or opens it. You go silent, you become the monster, you go numb, you sacrifice yourself… and in the end you look for the one who can fix you. DOCTOR is the question with no answer: can someone really repair you, or do you have to do it yourself?"
How do you build a track?
"The word comes first. Always. Once I have the title, I have the direction. Then the production has to sound like the word: NUMB had to be ice cold, MARTYR had to hurt. If the beat doesn't tell the same story as the lyrics, I throw it all away."
Your visual identity is instantly recognizable. Black, red, capital letters. Why?
"Because music is seen before it's heard. You can spot a DARKAAZ cover in one second in any feed. Black is the background, red is what's still alive inside it. My whole project fits in those two colors."
"Black is the background.
Red is what's still alive inside it."
An album? A stage?
"Both are coming. The five singles were the foundation. What's next is bigger, heavier, more live. This sound was built for the stage — for the pit. Stay connected: everything drops first on the YouTube channel and Spotify."
One last word for people just discovering you?
"Play MONSTER loud. Very loud. If you feel something, the rest of the discography is for you."
